FreeCell Solitaire

Added 7 Nov 2026

Play FreeCell solitaire free in your browser: the patience game where every card is face up, so almost every deal can be won with careful play, using the classic numbered deals.

How to play

All 52 cards are dealt face up into eight columns, four of seven cards and four of six. At the top left are four free cells, each able to hold one card, and at the top right are the four foundations. The goal is to build each suit on its foundation from Ace up to King.

Only the top card of a column, or a card in a free cell, can move. It can go onto a foundation, into an empty free cell, into an empty column, or onto a card in another column that is one rank higher and of the other colour, so a red 9 goes on a black 10. Any card can start an empty column, not only a King.

You may move an ordered run of cards at once when there is enough free space to do it one card at a time. That is the number of empty free cells plus one, doubled for each empty column; the line under the score always shows how many cards you can move right now.

Tap a card and it jumps to its best legal spot: a foundation, then a column, then an empty column, then a free cell. Tap it again to try the next spot. Cards that nothing else could need go up to the foundations by themselves. Hint shows a move from a winning line when one is found, Undo takes moves back, and Restart plays the same deal again. Once every column is in order, Hint becomes Finish.

Strategy tips

Modes

4 Cells is classic FreeCell with the 32,000 numbered deals, and every one of them except deal #11982 can be won; that deal is never dealt. 3 Cells takes one free cell away, and 2 Cells takes two, which makes planning much harder; in these modes you only get deals our solver has already won with that many cells. Each mode keeps its own wins, streak, best time, fewest moves and medals: bronze for a win, silver and gold for fast wins without the Hint button. Add ?deal=1 to the address to play any deal number.

FAQ

Is every FreeCell deal solvable?

Almost. Of the 32,000 classic numbered deals, only deal #11982 cannot be won with four free cells, and this game never deals it. In 3 Cells and 2 Cells many deals cannot be won, so those modes only deal games our solver has already won with that many cells.

What is a supermove?

Officially you move one card at a time, but you may move a whole run at once when there is room to do it card by card. The limit is the number of empty free cells plus one, doubled for each empty column. Moving into an empty column, that column does not count.

Are these the classic numbered deals?

Yes. The deals use the same numbering as the FreeCell that shipped with Windows, so deal #1 here has the same cards as deal #1 there. The deal number is shown at the top of the screen.

Why do some cards go to the foundations by themselves?

A card moves up on its own only when no other card could ever need it in the tableau: Aces, 2s, and any card whose two foundations of the other colour are already high enough. Other cards stay until you tap them.

Can I undo a move?

Yes, as often as you like. Undo takes back one move at a time, all the way to the deal, and Restart plays the same deal again from the start.

Can I play FreeCell on my phone?

Yes. The game is made for a phone screen: tap a card and it jumps to its best spot, tap it again to try the next one. It runs in any browser with no download and no account, and your game is saved if you close the page.
