Rooftop drops you into a night-time street canyon with a grapple gun and no floor of your own. You are always sinking toward the traffic below, and the only way to stay up is to hook the antennas that rise off the buildings on either side. Every couple of seconds a pair of them comes out of the fog, one to your left and one to your right, and a single tap on that half of the screen fires the line and swings you up and onward. It is a one-finger game, but the finger is answering a real question each time, because the two hooks are never worth the same.
The tall cyan ▲ antenna gives you a long, high swing that buys back plenty of height but pays almost nothing. The short gold ★ antenna pays three times as much and feeds your combo, yet it barely slows the fall — take it twice in a row and the height bar on the left starts to look thin. When it flashes red you are close to scraping the street, which costs your multiplier, and touching down ends the run. Timing matters as much as side: a hook glows and pulses while it is in reach, and latching the instant it draws level with you is a perfect swing with extra lift and a combo step. Hook it too early and the rope is long and shallow, so you gain far less. A full combo multiplies everything eight times over, which is why a patient player who banks height on cyan and then cashes it in on a run of gold beats someone tapping blindly by a wide margin.
After about fourteen seconds aloft the canyon reaches the neon district. Glowing shop signs start hanging in the swing arc of some hooks, most often in front of the greedy gold one, and swinging through a sign smashes it, knocks thirty points of height off you and wipes the combo. Now each pair asks a sharper question: keep the streak alive on the safe cyan hook, or take the gold one behind the sign and pay for it in height. Occasionally both arcs are blocked and you pick the smaller loss. Chill, Normal and Hard change the pace of the pairs and how fast you sink, but the opening stretch stays forgiving in every mode. If you like reading two options at speed, try Glide, Carve or Dash.
