Some arrive lying flat, ready for the flow to pass straight through. Most arrive standing on end, blocked, with a cross drawn across the bore. A single tap turns whichever section is sitting under the marker, and the orientation it happens to be in the moment its trailing edge clears the marker is the one the water meets.
