Hold to climb the steep track banking and store speed, then let go to swoop down onto the inside line. A dive from the top band pays four times a dive from the bottom, but landing beside a rider on the low line crashes you out.
👆 Hold to climb · release to dive ← All gamesVelodrome is built around the oldest trick in track sprinting: height is speed you have saved for later. A velodrome's bends are banked so steeply that a rider who climbs toward the rail is storing energy, and a rider who drops off the top can swoop down past the pack faster than anyone pedalling along the bottom. In this game you never steer left or right. You decide when to climb, and you decide when to let gravity take you down onto the inside line, where the riders you are hunting sit nose to tail.
Press and hold anywhere to climb the banking, and let go to dive; the space bar works on desktop too. The gauge on the right splits the track into four bands. Touching down on the low line banks a dive worth the highest band you reached before it, and the dive is cashed in as an overtake when the next sprinter comes level with you, as long as you have climbed back out of the bottom band by then. A dive from the second band pays twice the base and one from the top band pays four times. The dashed strip on the low line shows exactly where a dive started right now would put you down. Teal means the gap is clear. Red means you would land beside a rider holding the low line and crash out. Every overtake in a row raises your multiplier up to three times, and letting a rider go by with no dive banked resets it. The pace bar along the bottom drains all the time and only cashed dives refill it, so riding safely along the top without ever diving gets you dropped by the pack. Do not wait pinned against the rail either, because a rider who stalls up there slides off it with no control and banks nothing for the drop.
Past 120 points, or forty seconds into a ride, the blue-jerseyed stayers arrive. They ride high on the banking between the sprinters, so the top band is no longer a safe place to wait and climbing into one ends the run just as surely as a bad dive. Now you are threading two layers of riders at once, timing the climb as carefully as the drop. If you like a hold-and-release rhythm on a banked track, try Sidecar. For another downhill line choice, play Carve, and for trading height for speed in the air, try Glide.
